these two weeks past just too quickly! but they were amazing...

what can be better than traveling from frizzing cold

(nearly 30 degrees minus Celsius - is not a joke!) to nice warm temperatures! that's right - nothing!

of course it's not possible to describe EVERYTHING, so here are some of the most memorable impressions from our journey...

1. we went swimming in January!

I mean, it's really amazing when you are swimming in this ridiculously warm water and then you think: "wait a second...it's the middle of January!" to tell you the truth, it's a great felling :)

2. any fruit you can think of - you'll find here!

not to mention papayas and coconuts growing on the streets! for me, that's definitely not a usual thing :) and some of the fruits we tried here, I don't even know their names, but they were good! but my favourites would be mangos, pineapple and sugar cane juice (yes, they can get juice from anything!)

3. mud baths and mineral springs

the feeling you after just 20 minutes in mud baths is superb! it's like being reborn or getting new skin - fresh and soft, almost silky to touch. that's the best refreshment I've ever experienced...

4. riding an ostrich

that's a weird feeling, but it's worth to try it :)

5. food and drinks

what I enjoyed the most - seafood almost every day. and it's super fresh - most likely got out from the sea this very day. isn't that great?
and my personal treat - cocktails! I love them and here I love them even more :) well, no surprises - the secret is simple: and it's again - locally grown ingredients. not only fruit but rum as well ;)

6. beautiful scenery. peaceful and inspiring.

7. and one more thing... best of the best...

and that's - being with my family again! after one more year of college studies this journey is a wonderful treat full of moments that I'm going to cherish!

I hope that's not our last trip together and
we'll discover much more beutiful places and share much more wonderful moments...

My favourite thing is this vintage "cup", though actually it's a glass with a glass holder.

It actually makes the process of drinking tea even more enjoyable for me.

Spinning the wheel

Just this summer we got this wonderful spinning wheel. It is approximately 100 years old! When we got it it was out of use, but now it's completely fixed and actually working! So one more interesting thing arsenal of ideas how to make our hand made things even more unique :) I hope we'll master this new technique soon enough :)

The evening of Kharm's

On one occasion a man went off to work

and on the way he met another man who,

having bought a loaf of Polish bread,

was going his way home.
And that's just about all there is to it.

On the first of April we (my theater friends and me) participated in the literary soirée devoted to Daniil Kharms's literary works. Daniil Kharms was an early Soviet-era surrealist and absurdist poet, writer and dramatist. During his lifetime, Kharms was best-known for his humorous children's stories. His other works, held in private archives, were rediscovered in the late 1960s and today his fame rests chiefly on his experimental, absurd prose pieces.

The evening was a bit funny, a bit sad, a bit ironic and a bit tragic... We read poems and sang absurd... The atmosphere was wonderful - spoons, cups, pots hanging from the ceiling... truly absurd!

We did our variation of the "Rebellion".

-- Drink vinegar, gentlemen -- said Shuyev.
No one gave him any reply.
-- Gentlemen! -- shouted Shuyev -- I propose to you the drinking of vinegar!
Makaronov got up from his armchair and said: -- I welcome Shuyev's idea. Let's drink vinegar.
Rastopyakin said: -- I shall not be drinking vinegar.
At this point a silence set in and everyone began to look at Shuyev. Shuyev sat stony-faced. It was not clear what he was thinking.

Three minutes went by. Suchkov smothered a cough. Ryvin scratched his mouth. Kaltayev adjusted his tie. Makaronov jiggled his ears and his nose. And Rastopyakin, slumped against the back of his armchair, was looking as if indifferently into the fireplace.
Seven or eight more minutes went by.
Ryvin stood up and went out of the room on tiptoe.
Kaltayev followed him with his eyes.

When the door had closed behind Ryvin, Shuyev said: -- So. The rebel has departed. To the devil with the rebel!
Everyone looked at each other in surprise, and Rastopyakin raised his head and fixed his gaze on Shuyev.
Shuyev said sternly: -- He who rebels is a scoundrel!
Suchkov cautiously, under the table, shrugged his shoulders.
-- I am in favour of the drinking of vinegar -- Makaronov said quietly and looked expectantly at Shuyev.
Rastopyakin hiccupped and, with embarrassment, blushed like a maiden.
-- Death to the rebels! -- shouted Suchkov, baring his blackish teeth.

Overall I enjoyed this experience a lot! We had much fun preparing for our scene and I liked our performance as well. I hope that's not the last time us doing something like that!

Lifeguard Training. Day 3

First stage completed! I passed my lifeguard test. Exhausted, but happy. Now the only thing left is to finish my training at the lifeguard camp at the end of May. Well, not the only thing of course. I need to get a visa, buy tickets and all that kind of stuff... Oh, that's going to be a very busy spring...

World Theater Day!

On the March 27 is the World Theater Day!

In my family it is a very important holiday. My parents run a theater, so I've been in this atmosphere since childhood - theater is my home and our theater crew is my second (and first :) family. When I was in high school, I helped my parents in the theater a lot and today I'm in our University drama club myself! I don't think I'm going to choose it as my future profession, but as a hobby I enjoy it a lot.

Lifeguard training. Day 2

Hard day. We did more training, but the rescuing techniques become more and more difficult. Today we used a back board and were taught how a lifeguard should response when the guest in distress has a neck or spinal injury. Oh, I hope I won't mix up anything. Also we were shown how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (I've never imagined I'm going to to anything like that!) Tomorrow we have the final test, so the rest of the day I'm going to study the material.

Oh, and there is one funny thing I've noticed - sometimes I tend to behave like a real teacher (which I actually my major in the University - English teacher :)

Our instructors were testing our English knowledge today, so we had to read some lifeguard-related sentences in English. Oh, I got a headache from all those Russian "r"-s and "th"-s! =) I was about to start making corrections (just like on our phonetics classes) Yes, I'm horrid. I guess I need to take it easy :)

Lifeguard training. Day 1

Yes, I'm through the first day of my lifeguard training. I'm a bit worn-out but with a touch of happiness. Actually it was much more interesting than I expected. And the swimming test wasn't that hard - we had to swim across the swimming pool, then reach the bottom of the pool and finally float for one minute not using your hard. Likely I passed everything (as usual I was underestimate my abilities and exaggerating the difficulty of the task). The we were shown several rescuing techniques and then listening to some theoretical material (also with some practice). Now I know what to do if somebody is choking and stuff like that. So actually it is very interesting and useful. Also we have very fun instructors and there are quite funny guys in my lifeguard group. So, I should say that I like it a lot! And I have two more days to go)))

Get ready for summer!

Tomorrow is the first day of my lifeguard training. I'm planning to work as a lifeguard in the swimming pool this summer, so I need to complete this training. I'm quite nervous. I guess I'll have to pass some kind of exam or something like that... and listen to a small course of lectures. I just hope everything will go smoothly. And then - hello summer! :)

Proud to be a donor.

Finally, I was able to make my second blood donation yesterday. I made my first blood donation in June 2010. I've made several attempts after that but unfortunately I got rejections due to the low haemoglobin level in my blood. So I started to get ready for my next donation. I was taking vitamins rich in iron and keeping a diet, which consisted of "red" products. And finally my haemoglobin level was hight enough and I was able to make a donation! I should say that being a donor is one of the most positive experiences in my life. In my childhood I was afraid of injections and syringes but this is a completely different thing. I have such an emotional rise! And the more I hear about the recent events that happen very close to us the more keenly I feel the importance of such things. I feel like it can really make a difference.

Here is some great news concerning our Etsy shop. We are almost for 2 years on Etsy and we are so glad we are able to share our work with others, because the world of felting is very diverse and beautiful! In our shop we have mostly accessories but something we really wanted to try to do was clothes! It was both our plan and our dream :) We worked really hard to make that happen... and finally... our first dress! yay!

DIY Gift Bag: "Sail away with me..."

hello my dear readers!

I just wanted to share with you this sweet idea for a gift bag! It's very cute and easy to make yourself (only 10 steps).

This is my first DIY, so I'm a bit worried if the explanations are clear enough. If you have any suggestions, please leave a comment, I'll be very glad :)

What do you need:

1. a gift bag

2. a piece of rectangular paper

(it's better to use thin paper that has the same print on both sides

some old newspaper/book/dictionary like I did for my gift bags)

3. packing twine or anything else you would like to use for decoration

1. fold a piece of paper in half

2. fold the top corners into the middle of the paper (it's very easy to find the center line by folding the left side on the right side and by unfolding)

3. fold the bottom of the paper up to the bottom of your corners (do it on both sides)

4. then fold the bottom corners (on both sides)

5. fold the bottom of the paper again (on both sides), so the whole piece would look like a square.

6. insert thumbs into bottom to make a square

7. fold the bottom part of the square like this (do both sides)

8. insert thumbs into bottom, push and make a figure like shown

9. fold the bottom part

10. grasp the edges and pull them gently apart to create a boat. Voilà! Your paper boat is ready!

here are the boats I've made for the "Sail away with me..." gift bags. You can decorate the bags with packing twine, little seashells. etc. Have fun! :)

For the past week I kept oversleeping the usual hour of rising. And every time because of dreaming! I had dreams about something pleasant. I can't make out what exactly were they about, but definitely something enjoyable :) Nevertheless the thing is that these dreams are so interesting that I want to "see" how they end. As a result I wake up 40 minutes past the time when my alarm goes on! Fortunately I live very close to the University and I'm almost never late for classes... but I have a feeling that sometime I'll be. I guess I should do something about these dreams ;)

Ok, another week has passed. I returned to Vladivostok from my 1,5 month stay at home in Khabarovsk. I was so-so glad to see all my friends again! Ha, you should've heard all those squeals of delight and seen all those hugs and kisses. That's why I like returnings :) So, it was a good week and here are the things I LOVE:

Of course I love her 24/7!!! :) but this week was her Birthday week and we had so much fun celebrating it. Lena was receiving tons of presents, flowers, compliments... and she said it was the hardest thing to go through :) Oh, I love her so much! Happy Birthday, my sunshine!

I've probably mentioned that I got a camera for New Year? Well, I love it! I've always loved pretty pictures on blogs and on weheartit. Now I want to take something similar myself! I'm far from perfection now, but it all comes with practice, right?

The last day of winter vacation... So we decided to cheer ourselves us with a little cafe evening. :) The funny thing was that we didn't know exactly where we wanted to go: some wanted pizza, other wanted to have something sweet. So at first we had some pizza and then headed to "Cinnabon", where we are those gigantic bons :) What a fun evening :) and now hello university! again.

yes! There is this really cool Chocolate SPA treatment that we found with my mama. And which we can use it home. It's amazing what this thing does to your skin! It becomes so smooth... :) And the best thing is that it smells delicious!

Music is something i can't do without. My ipod is my friend :) My current "lullabies" are songs by "Travis (as you can see, I almost never listen to something up-to-date, I just keep coming across some "treasuries" :) I just LOVE how they play, sing, their manner... And each of their songs seems to be like a little separate story. I like it :)

and no, I am not talking about the magazine :) During this past week I was reading this book by William Thackeray for my literature classes. It turned out to be so interesting! I'm just caught up in the plot. And the style is so easy, just like an author is simply talking to you.

The year just started but we are all in work! Today we went to arrange our items in the shop after Christmas/New Year sale. Then done some photo-shooting on my new camera (nice!)

These several days which are left before our trip to China we probably also spend working and doing after-new year visits to our friends... And then we'll finally have the whole week for relaxation!

Our favourite model, our beautiful Vika, came with her theatre "Derevo" from St.Petersburg several days ago and of course we could not resist to make a fotosession of her in my felted hats!

When the hat hands on the mannequin it's just a hat. It look just like every other hat I have. But when such a wonderful person puts it on - it trasforms - it becoms a real masterpiece! I don't really drink coffee that often, but when you are in a cafe you just have this very special mood and you can't resist a cup of coffee) And that's what I've noticed - in the mornings I love to sit in the cafes by myself: to watch people hurrying to work and to stop for a moment.. to think about something nice and not to hurry anywhere... And in the evenings I love to be there with my frineds - to laugh a lot and forget about all the worries of the past day!) And what about afternoons? This week was such a nice week! (Well, may be except for the fact that I got a little bit sick...) But overall it was really fun! The thing is that in our city is held a film festival. «Pacific Meridian». And that's quite an even here! More than 150 films were shown, lots of press-conferences were held (imagine, even with Gerard Depardieu! How cool is that! At least for me :), there was even a soccer match between actors and our local team! Of course, we could not miss all these :)

One of the things me and my frinends really enjoys were evening open-air movies. You get such a special feeling when you sit in a beautiful place washed ny sea waters, with yahts earby and cozy cafes nearby... Oh, I loved that!

Summer. part 3. Close to nature

As I've already said, the views there were fantastic, so of course we took lots of pictures of our felted accessories and toys)

It's amazing how natural felted items look in this environment.. May be they comliment each other so beautifully because wool is a natural material itself.

Summer. part 2. Sunsets

Here is my second post about our little vacation.

The thing that impressed me the most was the beauty of this place. The views were breathteaking!

One of the most amazing things that we did was meeting the sunset on the top of the hill. When you look down and can see how little our camp was, when you see small toy-like boats, when you can see where flows in the sea are, you just can find the right words to descrine your feelings. The only thing you can say in "Wow!"

Our vacation is over and it was a fantastic one! We did so many interesting things, met so many wonderful people and just had a good time :) I still haven’t unpacked all my stuff, but already uploaded some photos and I’m ready to share some of my impressions with you!

The camp where we stayed is like a big friendly family - we all come back to that place every summer so that's why we all know each other and we do a lot of activities together.

One day all the women of our camp decided to make a "bereginja".

"Bereginja" is a traditional Russian doll which symbolizes a female spirit in Slavic mythology. "Bereginja" is a "hearth mother, protectoress of the home". "Bereginja" had a very special meaning. The word "bereginja" comes from the russian words "cherish", "guardian". She guarded the house from all the misfortunes. Its presence in the house scared away demons and evil spirits. So we made this doll in order to protect our camp and people who stay there from all the bad things that can happen.

The shape of the doll is usually very simple - it symbolized the image man in general. But the clothes was very beautiful, bright and festively decorated (we did it with flowers, dog rose, riddons).

"Bereginja's" head is always covered with white cloth. The head symbolizes the spiritual essence of man. "Bereginja" never has a face. To depict a person forbidden, so the doll is not possessed by an evil spirit, which can hurt a person whom it is protecting. Also the eyes - a mirror of the soul - must be closed to protect the inner world of unexpected effects of the outer world.

The doll signifies the union of man and nature, solitude and our closeness to the mysterious forces of nature.

Well, it's about 23:45 here, almoust everything is packed (wow, that was a hard thing to do!) and I'm about to go to sleep... Even though I'm pretty tired I'm not sure I'll be able to fall asleep quickly because I'm so excited about this trip! =) I don't know, I guess that's just my personality because it happens to me every year))))

My first summer note

This summer has been extremely hot! I was sitting on my balcony today and simply melting... Not the best thing when you are in the city. I got 30 different teas as a present (thank you granny :-*) and I can even try them, because it is so hot in here (and that's considering my love for teas!).

The only thing that cheers me up is that I'm going to be at the seaside in a few days) and can spend these 10 day swimming and lazing in the sun :) Well, no matter what, I love summer ;)
